  • Citizens for a Healthy and Safe Environment (CHASE)

The Citizens for a Healthy and Safe Environment (CHASE) group was formed by long time civil rights activists and Lithonia residents in July 2010 when they were notified about a proposed biomass incinerator. The group’s first meetings were hosted by member Johnny Dougherty, now deceased. BREDL has provided the group with technical assistance throughout their campaign, and in 2014 CHASE became an official chapter of the organization.

  • Madison County Clean Power Coalition

Madison County Clean Power Coalition formed to find solutions to problems associated with the GRP Madison Biomass Power Plant. Our mission is to advocate for communities polluted by the processing and burning of toxic creosote treated railroad ties used as fuel for power generation. Our goal is to stop GRP from burning railroad ties and burn only untreated wood as promised. We also are working to mitigate air, water, land, noise, and light pollution resulting from the plant.
