BREDL held a Bucket
Brigade training workshop in
Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday, August 18,
2001. Volunteers were trained on bucket
operation and how to organize community
"bucket brigades".
The Bucket Brigade is an economical, yet
reliable, community based air sampling
program. The bucket captures air
using a "grab" sampling
technique. The air sample is then
sent to an EPA-approved laboratory for
analysis. The device can capture
such common air pollutants as hydrogen
sulfide, toluene, benzene, styrene and
vinyl chloride,
Developed by Communities for a Better
Environment, the Bucket Brigade device,
protocols, and sampling technique were
perfected and certified by a cooperative
effort between community groups, local
officials, and the US EPA to ensure
credible results.
BREDL is mobilizing communities
throughout the region to participate in
this expanded testing program.
