Air Pollution Control Devices

Progress Energy will install flue gas desulfurization devices (scrubbers) for controlling SO2 on Unit 1 by late 2005 and Unit 2 by 2007, & NOx reduction devices for controlling NOx by 2009.
(status as of June 2004, updated August 2007)

SO2: Wet Lime FGD on both units (Unit 2 began on May 5, 2006).
NOx: low-NOx burners on both units. Selective non-catalytic reduction on unit 1 (Sept 20, 2006). Overfire Air on Unit 2. Selective non-catalytic reduction on unit 2 began May 1, 2006.
