Dec. 15, 2003: BREDL additional comments on NC DAQ rulemaking for Hydrogen Sulfide limits.

Dec. 05, 2003: Earthjustice files lawsuit challenging regulations published by the EPA that will allow hazardous chemicals at toxic waste sites to be pumped into the air without any control measures. Earthjustice filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Sierra Club, the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League and Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety.

Particulate matter standards under review. EPA Nov. 12 & 13, 2003 MEETING in Research Triangle Park, NC. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Science Advisory Board Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) Particulate Matter (PM) Review Panel. Public comment period will probably happen on Nov. 12.

Oct. 24, 2003: BREDL requests a new supplemental EIS for surplus plutonium disposition by DOE based on weaknesses at Catawba and McGuire and the international shipping of plutonium questions. Shipping is now required because the test fuel rods will not be manufactured in the USA as originally proposed but in France. (in .pdf)

Oct. 21, 2003: BREDL submits supplemental petition in Duke Energy Catawba Nuclear Power Plant license amendment proposing use of mixed oxide Lead Test Assemblies. Duke Energy has requested NRC grant permission to test plutonium rod assemblies at the Catawba plant. (in .pdf)

June 30, 2003: EPA Region IV letter to Dr. Rick Weisler stating that current laws are not enough to offer "consistent and comprehensive environmental protection strategy." The EPA letter writer urges Dr. Weisler to continue his work to document unexpected disease clusters and contaminant associations near asphalt industry in Salisbury, NC.
